Mineral Data Services (Light Catcher Pty Ltd) was established in 2008 to offer a range of database, GIS and data presentation services through the application of open source software and templates.

Database

PostgreSQL database set-up, loading and management for mineral exploration. Open source mineral exploration template xplordb is avaialble which connects with QGIS, LibreOffice, Micromine, Surpac, etc.

GIS/Maps

PostGIS setup and integration -- this makes Postgres spatially aware, thus combining spatial data with regular data. Map production and section production for analysis and display/presentation.

PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-relational database system. It has more than 30 years of active development that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, feature robustness and performance.

PostGIS is a spatial database extender for the PostgreSQL database(see above). It adds support for geographic objects allowing location queries to be run in SQL from PostgreSQL.

QGIS is the best GIS tool in the free and open-source software (FOSS) community. It is a user friendly opensSource Geographic Information System (GIS) licensed under the GNU General Public License. QGIS is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). It runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, Windows and Android and supports numerous vector, raster, and database formats and functionalities.
